The total area is the total width (w + 6) times the total length (2w + 6) and that equals 416. So (w + 6)(2w + 6) = 416 2w^2 +18w + 36 = 416 2w^2 +18w - 380 = 0 (w - 10)(2w + 38) = 0 w = 10 and w = -18.5 Throw out the negative answer because you can't have negative width. So the dimensions of the garden are 10 x 20

How did you get (w-10)(2w+38)?

Actually the quadratic looked hard to factor so I just used the quadratic formula to solve. Once I solved, I worked backwards to get the factors
