The usual equation for this sort of thing is
s(t) = s0 - v0t - (1/2)gt2
where g is the acceleration due to gravity, 32 ft/sec/sec in the English system of units. t is the time in seconds, v0 is the initial downward velocity (which would be 0 if the object were dropped or have some value if it were thrown downward), s0 is the initial height and s(t) is the height of the object after t seconds.. This equation assumes motion downward, i.e. from a height toward the earth's surface.
