Alright, Jerry, it seems you have issues with this kind of problem.
 
This is almost a trick problem.  How can 8 plus anything equal 8 minus anything?  Not possible, so -6p has to equal 0.  0+8 = 8+0.  Since -6 is not equal to 0, then p must be equal to 0, so p = 0.

Actually, in this case, the left and right side are identical, just reversed using the commutative property. All real numbers will solve this problem.
 
Adding the negative number on the left is the same as subtracting it on the right.
