Greetings! Lets solve this shall we ? Let x = the cost of tables and y = the cost of chairs
So, let the equations be set equal to
4x + 2y = 200
2x + 7y = 400................Now multiply the second equation by -2 so we can cancel out the x-values such that
4x + 2y = 200
-4x - 14y = -800...............Now we use the process of elimination to solve for the cost of chairs first such that
----------------------
-12y = -600..............Divide -12 such that
y = $50 per chair
Now we plug this number in to obtain the cost per table such that
4x + 2(50) = 200
4x + 100 = 200................Subtract 100 to both sides such that
4x = 100...............Then divide 4 such that
x = $25 per table
I hope this helped!
