Systems of equations question. They give you information for 2 equations (A and B).
6 times as many dogs as monkeys
A) 6 × d = m
total number of dogs and monkeys is 35
B) d + m = 35
now you replace the m in the second equation with 6d because the first equation was 6d=m
d + 6d =35
(combine like terms)
7d = 35
d is × by 7 so to solve for d we need to do the opposite so ÷ by 7 on both sides
d=5
you can plug d=5 into the either equation (A or B) to solve for m
6 × 5 = 30
Now we need to subtract to see how many more dogs than monkeys
30-5=25 more dogs than monkeys
