aiden is a percussionist in his school band. One instrument he plays is in the shape of an equilateral triangle. One side is (3x-2y) inches, one is (8x-3y) inches and the third side is 7. Find and x and y.

Since it's an equilateral triangle, all 3 sides are 7 inches. Therefore:

3x-2y=7 -> 3x=2y+7 -> x=(2y+7)/3

7=8x-3y=(8/3)(2y+7)-3y=16y/3 + 56/3 - 9y/3=7y/3 + 56/3 ->21=7y + 56 -> -35=7y -> -5=y

x=(2y+7)/3=(-10+7)/3=-3/3=-1
