let x = one of the numbers
let y = the other number
y = 2x + 6 (6 more than twice the other)
x + y = 27
x + (2x+6) = 27 (just replaced y with its value from above)
3x + 6 = 27
3x = 21
x = 7 one number is 7
y = 2(7) + 6
y = 20 the other number is 20 and you can see that it is 6 more than 2 times the first number
