Hi Brooke... when you have problems like this, assign each number a variable like X or A, and turn this into two math sentences...

X + Y = 18 since the sum of two numbers is 18, BUT they also said that the difference (-) of the same numbers is 8, OR X - Y = 8

Now you can substitute the value of X from one into the other and solve:)
