Hello Andrew,
First, let us set this up as a proportional equation, fair enough?
Therefore:
1/8 = x
----- ------
1/2 1
Second, we can cross multiply this equation due to the properties involved in the proportional equation. Therefore:
1/2 x = 1/8 <----------This is the result of cross multilplying
x = 1/8 * 2/1 <----------Divide both sides of the equation by 1/2. Remember: You use the
reciprocal when dividing by a fraction on the other side of the equation,
okay?
x = 2/8 or 1/4 <---------When performing the division, you end up with 2/8 and that reduces to 1/4
Therefore: 1/4 liter is required to fill the jug.
I hope this assists and that you have a great weekend.
