Sally's humanities test is next week. She knows it takes 15 to 20 minutes to read one page. She has 10 pages to read before the test. She estimates it will take two hours and will plan to read the morning of the test.   What is the result of her estimate?

Sally only has 120 minutes to read and if it were to take her 20 minutes to read 1 page at a time she would spend a total of 200 minutes to read, I am unsure which answer is correct? I feel as if it is either 2 or 3.

1.Sally's estimate is close enough and she will be finished with her reading in time.

2.Sally's estimate is not accurate, but she will complete most of the assignment.

3.Sally's estimate is low, and she will not finish her reading in time.

You are on the right track by calculating the number of minutes it will take Sally to read the 10 pages at a rate of 20 minutes/page. You should also calculate the number of minutes it will take her to read the 10 pages at the 15 minute/page rate = 150 minutes. Because the time it will take her (somewhere between 150 -200 minutes) is greater than the 120 minutes she has to read the 10 pages, the correct answer is #3. Hope this helps, Jen
