How long did the first car travel?

One car went 10 miles farther when traveling at 50 mph than a second car that traveled 2 hours longer at a speed of 40 mph. How long did the first car travel?

Let T = the time the first care traveled.

The 50T is the distance traveled by the first car.

40(T+2) is the distance traveled by the 2nd car and it is 10 miles less than the 1st car, i.e.

50T = 10 +40(T+2)

50T = 40T + 90
