Hello Alex,
When asked a problem like the one you present above, asking you what number or "what do you have to multiply 5 by," to get a specific number such as 6, you can form the following equation:
5x = 6 <----Notice 5 is being multiplied by a variable, and since you do not know what that variable is, this is why you should use a variable such as x, or any other letter you wish. "to get 6" means to equal six.
5x = 6 <--------Divide both sides of your equation now by 5, and when you do so , you will leave x to itself.
x = 1.2
Always check our work, right? To do so, all you need do is substitute 1.2 for the value of x, okay?
5 (1.2) = 6
6 = 6
