Let the number of nickels be n. Then, the number of dimes is 3/2 n. There are 5/2 as many quarters as dimes, so there are 5/2 * 3/2 = 15/4 as many quarters as nickels = 15/4 n Thus, the number of nickels, dimes, and quarters is n + 3/2 n + 15/4 = 4/4 n + 6/4 n + 15/4 n = 25/4 n
25/4 n = 500
n = 500 * 4/25 = 80
d = 3/2 n = 3/2 * 80 = 120
q = 15/4 n = 15/4 * 80 = 300
80 + 120 + 300 = 500
