2/3 of the 1/3 kept is 2/9 lost

1/3 x - 2/9 x = 4

3/9 x - 2/9 x = 4

1/9 x = 4

x = 36

First she lost 2/3 of 36, which is 24. She had 12 left. Then she lost 2/3 of 12 which is 8. She had 4 left.
