Grade 10 Math Word Problem (Please help!!!)

Question

Tickets to a school dance cost $4 and the projected attendance is 300 people. For every $0.10 increase in ticket price, the dance committee projects that the attendance will decrease by 5.

A) Determine the dance committee's greatest possible revenue

B) What ticket price will produce the greatest revenue?

Answer 1

y = mx + b

y = 4x

y = 4(300) = 1200 revenue with no price increase

vs.

y = (4.10)(295) = 1209.50

y = (4.20)(290) = 1218

y = (4.30)(285) = 1225.50

y = (4.40)(280) = 1232

y = (4.50)(275) = 1237.50

y = (4.60)(270) = 1242

y = (4.70)(265) = 1245.50

y = (4.65)(260) = 1205

I think there's an algebraic way to do this problem, but, it doesn't come to mind...
