The length of a rectangle is 3 m longer than its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 42 m , find its area.

Let x = width
then because "length of a rectangle= 3 m longer than its width"
( x+3 = length)
P=rectangle:
2(width + length)
therefore
38 = 2(x + x+3)
38 = 2(2x+3)
32 = 4x
x=32/4
x=8m (width)
.
length:
x+3 = 8+3 = 11 m (length)
then
Area Rectangle is = L*W
= 11 * 8
=88 square m
