Hi Zoe...hope you're having a great start to your school week.
Great question...I"ll help you with the beginning and show you how you can set up these kinds of questions and you will then be able to create a terrific skill when you see these kinds of problems. I won't give you the answer but show you how to do them.
First...write down the problem in a fraction form"
252000 = [in division you will need to address the place values to the left
0.004 of the decimal point]
...so for the denominator...the bottom number move the decimal point to the
first whole number, which just so happens to be the number 4.
The best way to envision this is to begin with the decimal point and move each place
value to the right toward 4...here is and example.
decimal point [is the starting point], moving to the right toward the first zero is one place,
then move another place to the right to the second zero
then move another place to the right to the number 4
[place your pen/pencil on the decimal point, draw a curved line below to the right side of the first zero(count that as one), then draw another curved line to the second zero (count that as two) and finally draw a line below the second zero to the right side of the number 4] so the bottom will look
something like this: 4. [The zeros have not value, they are place holders]
Now let's move to the top number the numerator, the number: 252000
Because we changed the appearance of the bottom number, the denominator we have to do the same thing for the top number, this balances the problem. In math we can't just do things without balancing the entire equation.
Since we moved 3 places to the right of the decimal point in the number 0.004, we have do so the opposite with 252000 which is really the number 252000.0 just written with a decimal point.
For the numerator (the top number) we are going to move the decimal point, this time to the left 3 3 places, just like we did with the bottom number, 3 place but this time to the left.
So starting where the decimal point is, with you pen/pencil draw a curved line from the decimal point to the left side of the first zero, continue with another curved line below to the second zero and then finally another curved line at the bottom to the left of the third zero.
It will look something like this: 252.000
Again, the zeros in this case have not real value, they are place holders we can now rewrite the equation to look like this:
252.000 or 252 = which will make the equation much easier to calculate.
004. 4
If you would like some help with your math, I can certainly help.
I won't give you the answers, that is too easy.
What I can do is help you develop skills so that when you have assignments or tests, you will be able to do these problems by yourself, since I won't be there to do the problems for you.
Let me know if I can help
Have a great week.
