Two cyclists leave towns 208km apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One cyclist travels 4

 /kmh faster than the other. If they meet in 4 hours, what is the rate of each cyclist?

Let x = the rate of the slower cyclist and x + 4 the rate of the faster cyclist

4x = the slower cyclist's distance and 4(x + 4) is the faster cyclist's distance

Together the travel 8x + 16 km = 208 km

8x + 16 = 208

Subtract 16 from each side

8x = 192

Divide by 8

x = 24 and x + 4 = 28
