This is a right triangle (hence the 90° angle), so you'd find the legs (both are the same length of a right triangle) by using Pythagoras Theorem (a² + b² = c²⁾  Since you have the hypotenuse (6"), just go backwards.  6² = 36 = a² + b².  Like I said before the legs are the same length so you can rewrite it as 36 = 2x², where x = either a or b.  Then just solve for x.
