There may be another method to solve this but it appears that there is more than 1 set of parentheses.

17 - (25 - ((1 + 3) * 5)) = 12

**P**arentheses

**E**xponents

**M**ultiplication

**D**ivision

**A**ddition

**S**ubtraction

17 - (25 - (**(**1 + 3**) *** 5)) = 12

17 - (25 - **(**4 * 5**)**) = 12

17 -** (**25 - 20**)** = 12

**17 -** **5** = 12

**12 = 12**

**You will need to add 3 sets of parentheses. **
