A math problem about two parks.

Jungle world charges $10 for admission plus $2.50 per hour. Funland charges $7 for admission plus $4 per hour. I want to find H, the number of hours for the total cost is the same at both parks. Then I need to solve the equation for it and state what the cost is for the number of hours. Tell me H (number of hours), and the total cost.

First write an expression for each park's total admission cost:

Jungle World Cost = 10 + 2.5H

Funland Cost = 7 + 4H

To find when the costs would be equal set the expressions equal to one another and solve for H:

10 + 2.5H = 7 + 4H

3 + 2.5H = 4H

3 = 1.5H

2 = H

The costs are the same when spending 2 hours at the park, and now we can use this fact to find the cost for 2 hours (we can use either equation):

10 + 2.5H = 10 + 2.5(2) = 10 + 5 = 15

The total cost is $15 and the same at both parks at 2 hours.
