Jack read 1/6 of a book on Monday. Tuesday he read 1/3 of the same book. He took another 4 days to finish reading the book. He read the same number of pages on each of the 4 days.

A. What fraction of the book did he read each day?

B. If he read 40 pages on each of these 4 days, find the number of pages on the book.

1/6 + 1/3 = 1/6 + 2/6 = 3/6 = 1/2

He read half the book by Tuesday

A) 1/2 divided by 4 = 1/2*1/4 = 1/8

B) 40 = 1/4 * ?

160 = ?

Book is 160 pages

He read 1/6 x 160 = 160/6 = 80/3 = 26 and 2/3 pages on Monday

He read 1/3 x 160 = 160/3 = 53 and 1/3 pages on Tuesday

That's 80 pages total.

Then he read 80/4 = 20 pages per day

1 - (1/3 + 1/6) = 1 - (3/6) = 1 - 1/2 = 1/5 (or .5) of the book left to read.

1/2 divided by 4 = 1/8 of the book read each day

If 1/8 = 40

then,

40 x 8 = 320 pages in the book.
