Let x = the cost of a chair
Let y = the cost of a table
4x + 2y = 218 Multiply both sides of this equation by -7.
-28x - 14y = -1526 (EQ#1)
6x + 7y = 587 Multiply both sides of this equation by 2
12x + 14y = 1174 (EQ#2)
Now add equations #1 and #2 together.
-28x - 14y = -1526
12x + 14y = 1174
16x = 352
x = $22, I know it's not dollars but that other icon doesn't exist on the website anymore.
4(22) + 2y = 218
88 + 2y = 218
2y = 130
y = $65
20x + 5y = 20(22) + 5(65) = 440 + 325 = $765
