Hey Ashly,

 

if this is 3 and a half (3 1/2 or 3.5) times (10), the answer will be 35.  By breaking 3 1/2 as 3 + 1/2 and then multiply by 10, it will give you 3 x 10 + 1/2 x 10 = 30 + 5 = 35.  Nothing fancy.

 

Or you can write 3 1/2 as 7/2 and times by 10.  This way, it will cancel 10 & 2 which means it will be left with 7 x 5 which is 35.

Convert the 3 ¹/₂ to an improper fraction (⁷/₂):

 

(⁷/₂) * (¹⁰/₁) = ⁷⁰/₂ = 35
