What is x in 9x - 32 = 140

I need help with this problem I did the worg but it gave me a contineous number.

As written, the answer I get is 19.11111... Is that what you got?

so the steps you need....you need to isolate for x 
 
9x - 32 = 140
      9x  = 140 +32(we want the x to be on its own, and the 32 becomes opposite because it crossed the equals sign)
      9x = 176
       /9      /9      (divide each side by 9 to solve for x)
 
x= 176/9
 
you can leave your final answer as a rational number to be more accurate

Hey Alexis,
 
Just because it came out to be fraction, that doesn't mean it is wrong answer.  All you have to do is put the number back into original problem to see if it comes out to be true.  If it does, it is the right answer.  There is nothing wrong with having fraction for an answer.
 
And you know 176/9 is not the answer.
