If a croc is 3/4 of an inch and a gekko is 2/15 of an inch, how much bigger is the croc over the gekko??

We need a common denominator.  The lowest common

multiple of 4 and 15 .. the smallest number they both

divide into ... is 60.

 

Multiple 3/4 by 15/15 and multiply 2/15 by 4/4

 

(15/15)(3/4) - 4/4(2/15)

 

= 45/60 - 8/60

 

= (45-8)/60

 

= 37/60

 

The croc is 37/60 of an inch larger than the gecko
