Brittney is in training for the 10th annual Halloween Race in her town. She’s trying to get her speed up to 6.5 kilometers per hour. In order to walk a kilometer (1000 meters) in her rectangular backyard, she must walk the length 25 times or the perimeter 10 times. What is the area of Brittney's backyard in square meters?

From your information, the length 25 times is 1000 meters. Divide by 25 to get the length is 40 meters .

 

Now the perimeter 10 times is also 1000 meters so divide by 10 to get the perimeter is 100 meters.

 

Since we have 2 lengths and 2 widths to make the perimeter of 100, And 2 lengths is 80, that means 2 widths is 20. So the width is 10.

 

So her yard is 40m by 10 m, making the area 400 sq m.
