the permitted of the rectangular playing field is 242 yards. The length of the field is 2 yards less than double the width. What are the dimensions of the field?

Let 2w - 2 = the length

P = 2l + 2w

242 = 2(2w - 2) + 2w

242 = 4w - 4 + 2w

246 = 6w

41 yards = w

length = 2(41) - 2 = 82 - 2 = 80 yards
