this is another way to look at your problem:
9 times 36 +36=
36(9+1)=36 times 10=360
or
8 times 36 +2 times 36=36(8+2)=36 times 10=360 or
36+36+36+36+36+36+36+36+36+36=36(1+1+1++1+1+1+1+1+1+1)=36(10)=360
