I got confused with this

Shelley was at the grocery store and bought 3 items that each cost the same amount. Billy Bob was also there and bought 4 items that each cost the same amount, but each was $2.25 less than the items that Shelley bought. Both Shelley and Billy Bob paid the same amount of money. What was the individual cost of each person's items?

Shelley bought 3 items: 3x

Billy bought 4 items: 4z

 

Each of Billys items cost 2.25 less than Shellys Items: z = x-2.25

 

With this, Billy bought 4 items: 4(x-2.25)

Since they paid the same amount Shelly = Billy

Therefore: 3x = 4(x-2.25)
