Rectangular-Based Prism

Question

A bar of soap is in the shape of a rectangular-based prism with dimensions 1 cm by 3 cm by 6 cm. Determine the dimensions of a cylindrical container that will be just large enough to hold 12 bars of soap. 

 

Can anyone show me the steps to do this question?

One example is as follows:

 

   They are stacked on the bottom as 1 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 8

   bars of soap on the bottom of the container.

 

   Then a container with diameter 9 or larger is needed since 3x3 = 9

    THe containder must also be at least 12 high since 2x6=12 when the

   bars of soap are stacked
