P = 2 (L + W) 

You are given the perimeter and a key piece of information which is "A rectangle field is nine times as long as it is wide." 

Therefore, with that information: 

W = x
L  = 9x

Now substitute these values in the original equation. 

P = 2 (L + W) 

1100 = 2 (9x + x)

1100 = 18x +2x

1100 = 20x 

x = 55 <---This is your width

9x = 9*55 =495 <---This is your length 

Now, let's check our work, okay? 

P = 2 (L + W) 
1100 = 2 (55 + 495)
1100 = 110 +990
1100 = 1100

W = width

 

P = 2L and 2W

 

2(9W) + 2W = 1100

20W = 1100

W = 55 feet

L = 9W = 495 feet
