The width of a rectangle is 5 less than 3 times the length of the rectangle. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 70 inches what are the demensions of the rectangle

Okay, so the width is 5 less than 3 times the length (L)

 

So,

L = Length

Width = 3L - 5

 

P = 2L + 2W

P = 2L + 2(3L - 5)

   =  2L + 6L - 10

    = 8L - 10

Since the Perimeter = 70

 

8L - 10 = 70

8L = 80

L = 10

Width = 3L - 5 = 30 - 5 = 25

 

So,

Length = 10 in

Width = 25 in
