Help please! quantitative reasoning

The area of Tom's garden, which has a width of 7 ft is twice as large as Ben's garden, who has a width of 5 ft. Find the lengths of the gardens if Ben's garden is 2 feet shorter than Tom's.
 
 
Equation: 7(x+2)=2(5x)
 
What does the x represent?
 
What does the x+2 represent?
