I prefer to take the minus sign out of the quadratic term, so I will factor it out.

 

-(x² - 2x - 35)

 

Which two numbers will add to give -2 and multiply to give -35?   Answer: 5 and -7

 

-(x - 7)(x +5) = -1(x + 5)(x - 7) would be the factorization.
