hi kayla--
what you want to think about are "perfect squares," like 2 squared is 4, 3 squared is 9, etc.
Working like that with positive whole numbers, you'll soon get to a number that when you square it, it will be a bit less than 43, and then the next number squared will be more than 43. So an estimated square root will be somewhere in between.
so what whole number, when squared, gets close to 43 but doesn't go over it?
and what's the first whole number you get to that, when squared, will be above 43?
Answer those 2 questions, and your estimated square root of 43 will be a decimal (or mixed number if you like) between those 2 whole numbers.
