b. Use these equations to predict the box office for region A and region B for the year 2019.

a. To predict this, you must set the equations equal to one another since y represents the movie box office (MBO) and we are calculating the value x, at which the y values are the same. This gives us:

0.39x + 9.8 = 0.9x + 6.7

Solve for x to find that x = 6.08. 
Since x represents the number of years since 2008, add 6.08 years to 2008.

 

b) To find the MBO for 2019, remember that 2019 is 11 years after 2008, so x=11; plug this in to each equation.

 

for region A: (0.39*11) + 9.8
for region B: (0.9*11) + 6.7

 

Don't forget these figures are in billions of dollars.
