An elementary school buys tickets for a field trip to the zoo. The number of children going on the field trip is 6 times the number of adults. Tickets for children cost $4 each and tickets for adults cost $8 each. The total cost of all of the tickets is $480, how many tickets of each type did the school purchase?

Number of adults = x at $8 each

Number of children = 6x at $4 each

Total cost = $480

 

8x + 6(4x) = 480

8x + 24x = 480

32x = 480

x = 480 ÷ 32
