Question

An object weighing 9.6 g is placed in a graduated cylinder displacing the volume from 10.0 mL to 13.2 mL. What is it’s density in g/ cm cubed?

Find the volume of the object from the difference in heights of the cylinder fluid in mL, which is the same as cm³.  Then divide the mass in grams by the volume to get density in g/cm³.  Assuming the object is fully submerged,

 

V = (13.2 - 10.0) mL = ? mL = ? cm³

 

m = 9.6 g

 

ρ = m/V
