FRACTIONS WORD PROBLEM HELP

Question

Half my flowers are yellow, a third of the remainder are red, 0.25 of the rest are pink. Only white flowers remain. What fraction of all flowers are white?

1/2 are yellow

 

 

1/3 of 1/2 = 1/6 are red

 

0.25 = 1/4

 

1/4 * 1/6 = 1/24 are pink

 

1/2 + 1/6 + 1/24 = 12/24 + 4/24 + 1/24 = (12+4+1)/24 = 17/24

 

1 - 17/24 = 24/24 - 17/24 = 7/24 remain and they are white.

 

 

 

So if there are 24 flowers:

   1/2 of 24 = 12 are yellow

   1/6 of 24 = 4 are yellow

   1/24 of 24 = 1 are pink

   7/24 of 24 = 7 are white
