 The number of 100 clip boxes is X+3.

The number of stray clips is X+3-2 = x+1

 

The number of paper clips is 10X + 100(x+3) + x+1 =

                                          10X + 100x + 300 + x + 1 =

                                           111x + 301

 

 Now you can generate the number of paper clips be selecting positive

integer values for X.

 

For example, if X=1, then there are 111(1)+301 = 111+301 = 412
