The League of Nations was weak for two reasons: 1) The United States did not join it. Woodrow Wilson urged the U.S. Senate to approve the treaty, but after World War I, the country decided to become isolationist again; 2) The League failed to act when Fascist Italy invaded and colonized Ethiopia (then called Abyssinia) in 1935.
