In order to solve this we have to set the two problems equal to each other since the question asks “when would the costs be the same”. The club charges 100 dollars and then 25 dollars per month. Since we don’t know how many months will be used you simply put x and multiply it by 25 (25x), let’s not forget that the client still has to pay $100 so 25x+100 would be the first equation. You repeat the same steps for the second equation at get 20x+200.
Setting the two equation equal to each other gives you:
25x + 100 = 20x +200
You have to ”combine like terms” that means getting x’s On one side and putting numbers on the other side.
Remember: Whenever you move terms across the equal sign your signs will change
you will get:
25x-20x=200-100
or
5x = 100
Now we have to get x alive, to do that divide both sides by 5
Solving the equation:
x= 20 months
