4n² - n = 14

4n² - n - 14 = 0

(4n + 7)(n - 2) = 0

 

In order for the left side to equal 0, one or both of the factors has to equal 0.

 

4n + 7 = 0

4n = -7

n = -7/4

 

n - 2 = 0

n = 2
