The easiest way to answer this question is to plot the points on a number line.
To answer the first part of the question, I would draw a number line starting from -7 and ending at -4. I would then count and add up each mark on the line starting at (-6 and ending at -4) as 1 unit, therefore you would have the following:
-6, -5, -4 = 3 units
The same method can be applied to the second part of the question, but I would start my number line at -4 and end at 6. Then count the marks starting from -3 to 6:
-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 = 10 units
