Hey Rose,
So in this problem lets assign the variable “W” to the width. From the problem, we know the length is equal to “3W” because it’s three times the width.
The Perimeter (P) of a rectangle is (2 x width + 2 x Length), which we know to be 24.
Now we can can set up an equation.
P = (2 x W) + (2 x 3W) = 8W.
Since we know P = 24, it is also =8W
With 24=8W, Divide each side by 8, and W = 3.
So if W=3, the width is 3 inches, and the length is 3W, or 3x3 which is 9.
::: Width 3 inches, Length 9 inches.
