Hi good people, a sumo wrestler just made something a little different called a math word problem this time

Question

.A young sumo wrestler decided to go on a special high-protein diet to gain weight rapidly.He gained weight
at a rate of 5,5 kilograms per month.After 11months, he weighed 140 kilograms.

1.1.Let W(t) denote the sumo wrestler's weight W (in kilograms) as a function of time t (in months).Write the
function's W(t).
1.2.Find his weight after 1year

Let's take the easy one first: since in 11 months he weighed 140 kg, in one year he will weigh just 5.5 kg more, i.e. 145.5.

 

W(t) is going to be a linear function with a slope of 5.5.  You need the t-intercept, i.e. his starting weight.  In 11 months he gained 11*5.5=60.5 kg.  His starting weight then was 140-60.5=79.5.  W(t)=5.5t + 79.5 (in standard, slope-intercept form).
