Math question, Increasing or decreasing?

A farmer hears a weather report saying that temperatures will be decreasing approximately 2 oF every hour for the next 3 hours. What is the total change in temperature expected over the next 3 hours?

Hi Maryvel,

 

Decreasing means it is falling.   So if it starts at 60 oF, 

 

after 1 hour it is 60 - 2 = 58 oF

after 2 hours it is 58-2 = 56 oF

after 3 hours it is 56 - 2 = 54 oF.

 

How much did it change?   Started at 60 and ended at 54.    60 - 54 = 6 oF

 

So the temperature DECREASES 6 oF over the next 3 hours
