Help with Ratio Problem Please

I saw this question on my formative task and want to know how to solve it.

 

in a group of people, their average age is 23. The men's average age is 25 and the women's average age is 22. Find the ratio of the number of men to the number of women

Answer 1

Let m = the number of men and w = the number of women.  Using the formula for the average (arithmetic mean):

 

(25m+22w)/(m+w) = 23

25m + 22w = 23(m+w)

25m + 22w = 23m + 23w

2m = w

m/w = 1/2
