2A + B = $20      leave equation as is

A + 2B = $22     multiply equation by 2

 

2A + B = 20

2A + 4B = 44

 

Now subtract equations

 

4B - B = 44 - 20

 

3B = 24

B = $8 for oranges

Then A = $6 for apples
